The Wrong Default is a twice-weekly newsletter written by Thomas Tornatore. This page explains what information the newsletter collects, why, and the choices you have. It is written to be short and plain, because that is the point.

What is collected

When you subscribe, you give an email address, and optionally a name. If you write back, that message and your email address are kept as correspondence. The email service that delivers the newsletter also records basic engagement, such as whether an edition was opened or a link was clicked.

Why it is collected

Your email address is used for one thing: to send you the newsletter. Engagement data is used only to understand what readers find useful and to improve future editions. Nothing here is used to build a profile of you or to target you with advertising.

How it is stored

Subscriptions and delivery are handled by a third-party email service provider that stores this information on our behalf and processes it only to send the newsletter. That provider maintains its own security and privacy practices.

Sharing

Your email address is never sold, rented, or traded. It is shared only with the email service provider described above, strictly to deliver the newsletter, and where disclosure is required by law.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every edition. You will be removed promptly.
• Ask what information is held about you, or ask to have it corrected or deleted, by emailing the address below.

Cookies

This website is a simple static site and sets no tracking or advertising cookies. Links to other sites, and the email provider's own pages, are governed by their separate privacy policies.
